What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is a holistic health system originating in India more than 5000 years ago. This makes it one of the oldest medical systems in the world. Through Ayurveda we aim to create balance wherever there is imbalance. We all have physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual needs where imbalance can occur. All of these aspects of the human being are interconnected, and need to be acknowledged as a whole to create lasting positive change.

Ayurveda uses tools like nutrition, lifestyle changes, herbs, oils, movement, mindfulness practices, meditation, and self-inquiry to obtain balance. No humans are alike, and by considering each individual’s unique needs we can create optimal conditions for harmony and wellbeing in the body and mind.

The wisdom behind Ayurveda comes from observation of nature – both inside and outside of ourselves. In Ayurveda we recognize three energetic archetypes that appear repeatedly in nature, and in ourselves. These are called doshas, and are named Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. The doshas are different combinations of the five elements: Earth, water, fire, air, and ether. Through Ayurvedic health counseling, we can together discover which of your dosha(s) are out of balance, and start taking action towards optimal balance in your system. With consistent choices in alignment with your needs, your body will start to radiate good health.

The body is working continuously to maintain a state of balance. By training our ability to listen to the body’s signals, needs, and desires, we can begin to remove the obstacles to our own healing. By listening, we can once again follow nature’s seasons and natural cycles. By strengthening our connection to our inner wisdom we can experience increased wellbeing, more solid health, and a deeper understanding of ourselves. I would be happy to help you navigate your journey towards a more empowered, fulfilling, and harmonious life.
